Connections through technology products 🙌

Or: why you should read this newsletter, and why I'm creating it for you.

If you’re into making connections through technology products, positive and impactful marketing, and the joy of the Internet, then I think you’ll find things you like in this newsletter.

In the past, I’ve just written about myself. I haven’t felt like I’ve offered a lot of value, or created longevity in what I’d like to write about and share with people who have similar interests to me.

Kevan Lee has a really insightful post about “How to Start A Newsletter from Scratch”, which I’m really taking to heart as I create this:

Why do you want to send a newsletter?

The answer for me was this: I want to send a newsletter because I feel so grateful for the lessons I’ve learned as I’ve grown as an online marketer, and I’d love to give back a bit of that learning to anyone interested to hear.

You can get close to an answer for yourself by thinking on these questions:

  • What do you enjoy about your favorite newsletters?

  • What gets you excited to do when you first turn on your computer?

  • What brings you the most satisfaction with your work?

  • What do you wish you could do more of?

  • What benefit would an email have for you?

In my experience, I’ve found that this newsletter business is a lot easier to stick with if your why goes beyond traditional marketing/business-y ideals (making money, building authority), particularly if the newsletter is going to be a side gig.

Reflect on the why answer. Remind yourself of it when you’re curating links and such.

I’ve always appreciated the helpful advice and very insightful newsletter that Kevan puts out. If you enjoy marketing, he’s VERY good at sharing useful teachings. I highly recommend his blog and newsletter, too.

Here’s why I want to send this newsletter:

I love technology, and technology products. I love how they can be marketed, and I love what companies do to build, grow, and sustain their products and their customers.

I’ve been lucky enough to have a hand at both marketing products to consumers, to having a hand in how they’re built, to helping other partners use technology platforms to grow their own businesses.

I don’t just spend time on Product Hunt looking at the latest things, I’ve also put a lot a lot of time into testing products for company use cases as a change agent.

This is a passion for products and the way they can help you get work done, grow your business, or be assets in your life, that I want to share with you.

At some point, maybe what I offer here will be so valuable that you’d love to toss a coin over to me for it, but otherwise, I need to enjoy the entire process of creating it, and line it up with a shared passion for technology products and the marketing of them.

I look forward to you joining me as we explore super cool digital stuff!

(Like byte, Vine is BACK baby and I probably won’t use it. I’m sure many will, but I feel like TikTok has a lot of momentum. What’s your take?)
